Hidden Litter Box

Helping old cat "go" in an appropriate place.
I bought this cabinet at a thrift store for 24.99. I gave it a light sanding to prep for painting. I drew out on paper the shape of a cat's head to make my guideline for cutting it out with a jig saw. I taped the paper down and used a pencil to mark where to cut with a jig saw. I used a drill to make a hole so that I could place the jig saw in and use it. I had to do this a few times to get this shape out of the wood.
I sanded down any sharp edges from the jig saw. Then I painted the cabinet a glossy black, 2 coats. Underneath the lattice work I painted a metallic gold craft paint. The lattice work was quite a chore to paint but worth it to me as it looks more like furniture and less like a litter box.
The reason I made this was because my 18 year old cat was going in the living room. After much cleaning and disinfecting, I put this in place and now my cat uses the box.
I put heavy duty shelf liner in there that I can replace and a cat mat for their paws. I wish I had used polyurethane inside as sometimes the cats miss the box. There is a night light in there also.
While I'm not thrilled to have a litter box in my living room, I'm happy that my 18 year old cat isn't going on my living room carpet anymore! I'm also pleased that I made it myself. I clean the box twice a day and have other litter boxes in the house. I use Feline Pine in pellet form in this litter box because it doesn't track as much as the other kinds. I went through many kinds of litter, trial and error and this one tracks the least.
