This isn't inspired by Pinterest, let me say that up front. I thought of it all by lonesome last year. We have pot lights in our kitchen ceiling but didn't have the kind of intimate lighting above the kitchen table that I craved. So I took an old lampshade, stripped the fabric off of it, covered it with doilies and used a swag lamp kit (with a gorgeous red cloth-covered cord) to hang it above my table. It's one of my favorite things.
Total cost? $49.00 for the kit from Shandell's. I had the doilies and lampshade on hand. Yes, you can buy cheaper kits, but since this was to be swagged from the wall to the table, I wanted an attractive cloth-covered cord.
