DIY Fur Stool

I have been seeing some fur accent stools on Pinterest and blogs and I LOVE them! Fur stools are versatile and neutral and would work anywhere from a master bedroom to a living room to a kids room. Also, they are super functional.
If you don't know what I am talking about when I say fur stool, here is Anthropologie's version.
It retails for $348. Although I love it, I won't be buying that version anytime soon! But I was in luck because I had a base of a stool that I picked up from a thrift store laying around after my son broke the wooden top. I had intentions of tossing it in the garbage and literally as I was lifting the lid to the garbage can, the idea dawned on me that I could use this to DIY my own fur stool. It was a miracle, people.
I cut a piece of scrap wood in the size I wanted the stool top. Then I cut some foam I picked up from the fabric store to the same size as the board.
Once I knew that was going to work, it was time to upholster the top with the fur. I placed the fur face down and then put the foam and then the board on top.
I started by folding the fur over the long sides, pulling tightly as I stapled the fur.
After I stapled all the sides, I was able to attach the base with the hardware that held the previous top in place.
Of course, I could not just leave it at that, I had to embellish it with some leather. But I did not have any leather straps just laying around. However, I DID have some old belts in my closet. Correction, the hubs had some old belts he was not using anymore (I have not worn a real belt in ages and all of mine are long gone to Goodwill). So I simply wrapped the belts around the stool. Easy peasy.
I only had to buy the fur (3/4 yard) and the foam. I think I spent maybe $20. Now I just have to keep the kids from ruining it!
