How to Clean Your Washing Machine Using Vinegar and Baking Soda

3 Materials
Easy
Here is a guide on how to clean a washing machine with vinegar and baking soda – clean without toxic chemicals. This post has an easy way to clean front loading washing machines, but this method should work on top loading washers as well.
After having breast cancer survivor, I am more cautious about the chemicals we use in our house. I know, it is impossible to eliminate all chemicals, but if I can, I try to substitute gentler cleaning products in exchange for harsh chemicals. I figured out a way to clean my washing machine without using toxic chemicals.
Start with a bottle with a mixture of 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar.

Front load washers get NASTY down here in FLaDuh. I use vinegar to clean mine often. Also useful is leaving the door open when not in use.

I live in a hard water area. So I put a water softener tablet in each wash then I dry the rubber gasket with a paper towel and leave the door open for half an hour or so to air dry the inside. My machine always looks like new. No need for a cleaning regime.
