Antique Bow Front Buffet

A few months ago I made the decision to stop doing furniture for the time being. Well, wouldn't you know, on my birthday, I was flipping through FB and saw this beautiful buffet on a local classifieds page. I took it as a sign and couldn't pass it up. :)
I always start by giving a piece a good sanding and cleaning. I then sealed it with two coats of shellac to prevent bleed through (it's mahogany). I mixed a custom turquoise, highlighted the door panels and the fronts of the drawers, and then glazed and sealed.
I sanded the top down to the bare wood, gave it two coats of Dark Walnut from Minwax, and then sealed with 3 coats of polycrylic.
I love how the glazing makes the details pop and gives the piece some dimension. I also chose to keep the original hardware as I like the classic feel of it.

LibraryKAT on Nov 05, 2016I've always liked wood, but your paint job really enhances the piece. You do good work! :-)
