Tough Weekend Produces a Stunning Stained Table

It was a tough weekend as my dog Nikkie got sick.. I was working on this table through the process of taking her to the vet and her eventually passing away. So I lovingly call this the Nikki rose table.
I started with this desk/table and gave her a really good clean.. Some one had put a melamine top on her so this had to be removed and here you see the new ply wood top .. I used a wood conditioner to prepare the wood.. I knew ply wood was going to be hard to stain..
After penciling on my rose. Nikki was watching me do this.. I got to and started staining her with walnut and black stain. The back ground was the hardest because the stain just wasnt working out.
Two days later and Nikki was gone.. Sadly I finished this table with out my companion watching every move I make.. With all the heart ache this little table turned out to be my best one ever.

Did you draw the rose free hand or did you have some kind of pattern or stencil? It is beautiful and are usually don't care for flowers painted on furniture, but this is really amazing!

I am sorry also to hear about the loss of your beloved pet, as I recently lost my beloved cat!

You have inspired me to make some kind of a momento to my poor kitty, as we had him cremated and planned to make some kind of a shadowbox. But this gives me an idea to maybe put his face on the small table or some piece of furniture as well.

Well done and a beautiful project!

Every time you look at it, it may give you a bit of sadness but also a huge amount of joy and I love that you named it after your dog! RIP!

thank you for sharing it with us.

    Julie

Well, as I said, you did a beautiful job on it! And that's quite interesting I never thought of using an overhead projector but that's really clever too, so way to go! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
