Fall Porch Decor

Our porch was looking a little hum drum, and its about that time of year that I like to spice it up for Autumn--at least so our mailman has some fall goodness on his usual route. This year I opted for some pumpkins from a local garden store, mums, a ladder, as well as some signage.
Making a pumpkin totem pole was fun, by stacking a variety of flat pumpkins. I also placed the most giant mum I could find in a large antique olive bucket I got at the Springfield Antique Fair. (I was thinking of your momma jokes when I was carrying a large mum through the garden store--so there's your corny pun for the day!) The antique ladder also came my way at the same antique fair. I hung some plaid blankets on it to give a fall flair.
I was inspired by some artwork I saw at the Country Living Fair and painted some quilt squares on two pumpkins to add a country look. My husband thought they were "flowers," so I'm still working on my free-hand painting skills!
The Autumn sign was a DIY you can find on the blog. The fake fall foliage is stuck in a metal bucket from Joann Fabrics, along with some birch logs to add a natural touch. You could always use real branch clippings as well. Lanterns from my sister's wedding have also been repurposed here. I plan to get some battery-powered candles for the lanterns in the future to actually use them to light the way for trick-or-treaters.

Anne Davidson on Oct 04, 2016Thanks. I actually ended up moving it inside so the blankets wouldn't get mildew on them when it rained. But perhaps I need two ladders one dedicated for outside and one for inside decor(?)
