Dresser Moves to the Other Side of the Tracks

Have you ever seen furniture set out on the side of the road? Have you ever thought about stopping and picking it up? Some call it dumpster diving. I call it artistic license.
This one just needed a bit of TLC. My DD grabbed it and took it home. It sat for a few months in her basement until she got time to repaint it. Do you have any projects calling to you in your basement?
It was worn and damaged. Often people will toss out furniture because they are outdated, water damaged or just doesn't fit their style.
Plus outdated hardware can make a piece of furniture unlovable. But there is something that can be done, and you can do it.
Do a bit of sanding to take off the shine to give it tooth.
Prime it with Zinsser 123 Primer. The spray is easy to use, so we often choose that rather than brushing it on. It's a bit more expensive, but sometimes we elect to save time rather than money.
When you prime, lightly sand after, then paint. My DD used ACE Hardware's cabinet, door, and trim paint to match her kitchen cupboards.
A little distressing adds character. Just use sand paper and take off just a bit of paint.
Find some hardware that matches your vision and voila! You've got a trendy new piece of furniture that looks like it came from Crate and Barrel.

Charlene on Nov 16, 2016I am so glad your daughter rescued this piece of furniture! Hard to believe what people will throw to the curb but thank heavens there are people like your daughter, you, and myself that are there to pick up the pieces so to speak!
