Knife Organizer

Loved the wooden hanging knife organizers but hated the high price, so I made one for my condo's kitchen for under $30.00. With a wood slab and rare earth magnets, I priced ones like it for $50-100 dollars-yikes. But the best part was customizing it to my colors and space, so let your imagination run wild! Anything you can attach magnets to the back of can function as a knife organizer and free up a little counter space!
I bought a 10 inch piece of birch with the bark left on. Spray painted a clear matte finish with food save Polyurethane . Drilled four, one inch holes the back with a High-Speed Steel Forstner Bit .
You must drill almost thru the wood for the rare-earth magnets to hold heavy knifes that appear to float on the wood. These magnets can be expensive at the hobby store, so I ordered them in bulk from Amazon.
I then glued them into the holes in the back, added a wire hanger and mounted them on my newly tiled back splash. As you can see my counter top is loaded down and this nice warm earthy organizer helped to both organize and temper all the stainless steel appliances. OK so the hand made tile my daughter-in-law and I made helps too!
