Painted Embroidery
This time I worked with a nice pair of nightstands, but I wanted to give them energy, a new life through color.

I usually keep images I like, even if I don´t know what I can use the idea for at the moment. Then, in situations like this, I go back to this library of ideas for inspiration.
This is an image from the web. I kept it not for the armoire but for that fantastic wallpaper. I loved those giant flowers and decided this would be inspiration for my nightstands.
I looked for more flowers like those ones and found there is a kind of embroidery that works with similar flowers with different stitches. It is called Jacobean. I collected a lot of images of the flowers and of the stitches, and had another idea about how to paint them: why not imitate the embroidery stitches with brushstrokes?
I cut two pieces of paper of the size of door + drawer and started drawing my design. I wanted two different tables but in harmony. Once I was satisfied with the drawings I transferred to the doors.
I had already painted doors in light blue. By rubbing a pencil on the back of the paper and then outlining the flowers from the front, I could transfer the whole image perfectly.
Started painting as I said, trying to imitate stitches with each brushtroke. Have a look at other parts:
After doors and drawers were ready, I painted the body of my nightstands in a rich magenta color. And look at them now!

Hi Marcela, I have said before on other projects that I am not fond of painted furniture especially antique, vintage or nearly, less damaged pieces. Where no other alternative is appropriate is fine. The updating of your tables is lovely. You kept your redo in tandem with the style of the pieces and that is one of the hallmarks of well done, well thought out projects such as yours. I have one suggestion that you can either like or not, always up to the maker:) on the panels with the flowers did you think of putting an outline in gold about a half inch from the edges to tie everything together especially with the gold trim pieces? Just a thought.
