Create A Garden From a Chair

I spend lots of time outside in my back yard. To make things easy when I grill I created a herb garden next to my grilling area. Whats special about this garden is that I made it from an old chair.
Step 1: Painting The Chair:
I removed the seat and sprayed painted the chair. Once the chair was dried I re-attached the seat.
Step 2: Making the Box Garden:
- I made a box garden with the same dimensions of the seat. (To create the box you measure the size of the seat and I used my miter box to cut the pieces of wood.)
- I glued each end with a strong adhesive and let dry for a few hours.
- I then attached the box to the seat with more glue and sprayed painted the wood the same color as the chair.
Step 3: Stenciling:
I carefully with chalk made 3 lines on the front of the chair as a guide to stencil the letters. I carefully stencil the words Relax, Garden and Eat.
Step 4: Adding Plants
Fill the box with potting soil and add the herb plants. Make sure there is enough to make the box look full.

Believe it or not, people in my neighborhood do throw these chairs to the curb for the trash man to pick up..They are there for the taking so to speak. I love the chair project. I have 3 chairs now I use for plants one is a high chair. But having one by the grill is a great idea!!!

i have painted chairs like this purple and sat them in the flower bed in the front yard with a pot of flowers on it. people walking by comment all the time on how they love it. I set the four feet of the chair on 4" sq. ceramic squares to help keep them off the soil....it helps to a degree.
