We moved into a newer home over a year ago and decided to update the family room since it's the room we spend so much time in and the room is clearly not our taste as you can tell from the pictures.
This room just didn't feel comfortable to us even though we spent so much time here. We hated the gold walls, and the ugly fireplace
We updated the fireplace. (There is a seperate post on this.)
Before - overlooking the conservation area that we back onto.
We painted the walls a light cream color and what a difference just a change in color makes. We moved the long TV from the mantel and placed it on a old dresser that I painted a sage green.
Another before view.
I sewed pink leatherette pillows and olive green silk pillows for accents. Painted the tea cart a pink to blend with the pillows and used espresso gel stain for the top. I made 4 DIY wall posters from various sticks that I had. I wanted to create a nature look since we back onto nature.
We love our new space.

Suggested materials:
- Used a chisel and hammer for the fireplace "doodad" removal. Filled in the gaps with drywall compound.
- Painted the fireplace and walls with regular paint. Used Rustoleum high heat paint for the brass fireplace screen.
