Do you have bathroom rug with bleach spots? Forget about spending money on a new one to replace it, this DIY is just what you need!
Here is my spotted rug. I hate the way it looks but I haven't had the rug for very long and I can't really justify getting a new one just yet.
First I wash the rug to start with a clean canvas. I laid 2 trash bags down to protect my surface.
I decided on a simply strip pattern for my rug. I used duct tape and sectioned off my rug as evenly as I could.
Next, I mixed my solution. I used a 1:2 ratio. 1 part water to 2 parts bleach. You could use 1:1 but I was worried about the bleach eating away at the rug. Be sure to shake shake shake the solution after you combine.
I sprayed the entire mat. Once I had 1 layer of bleach on the rug I put on a rubber glove and smoothed the pile the opposite way to make sure I sprayed all angles of the rug.
I let the bleach sit on the rug for about an hour to make sure it all soaked in. I put on the rubber gloves again and began to carefully remove the duct tape.
Be careful when doing this step not to transfer bleach onto the taped off section with your gloves. I had a few spots where the bleach leaked through the tape. I simply took scissors and cut the pile off where the spots were.
I throughly rinse off your rug with water to get the excess bleach off. I then washed and dried my rug. This also made my bleach stripes look less yellow and more white.
Perfection! Good bye ugly spot, hello new striped rug! You can get crazy with the pattern to match your decor. I think this adds a fun element to my mostly plain bathroom. Will you be using my trick on your rug?

Great job and amazing result! Your rug looks like an expensive designer's rug. I love it! I was going to call the loloi rugs customer service to order a new rug, but having looked through your post, I started thinking about trying to give my old rugs a second life. Thanks for sharing!

Just an observation. I think your idea is great. But, did you mean to say 1 part water to 2 parts bleach? You stated you didn't want the bleach solution to be too strong to eat away the rug, but your calculations would make it stronger than equal parts water and bleach that you mentioned. 2 parts water to 1 part bleach would be less strong than equal parts.
Can you put this on your lawn
What a smart idea. Had I known of this? I would have saved money, & the trip to the store, for a bottle of RIT dye. That too worked well, & brought it back to it's original. But, I like the striped idea even better!
