Exposed Beam Ceiling - Before and After

We've been working on refinishing the exposed beam ceiling in our family room since we closed it 2010. It has been a slow and tedious project but we can finally share the results. If you have exposed beam ceilings, do not cover them up. It is back breaking work but so worth it in the end. What do you think?

I was hoping for a more how to in your post. My living room ceiling looks close to your before picture. I have only hidden the electric lines going to the light. My project went to the top of my list when a houseguest left the water running in the sink upstairs yesterday. Yep. It soaked the couch and a recliner. I had planned to paint it, but that would allow water to rot the upstairs floor. I had wanted to install an oak floor upstairs. Can you imagine what the flood would have done to it... Going to your blog now.
