I saw this beauty at a thrift store and knew that I had to have it. I have the beginning of an Asian theme in my dining room and wanted an expensive Asian credenza. I couldn't afford one so I decided to make my own. It took three days a long weekend but I did it and the results are amazing!
I ordered the material that would match my vision off of Amazon.com. I decided to get the richest look possible that I would use spray paint. I chose the colors gold and black. The material was to cover the drawers because they had existing watermarks from what looked like water damage.
I had my strapping husband and sons move it to the porch so I could spray paint it. This item was very heavy! I used glossy for the rich shine I wanted.![icon](https://cdn-fastly.hometalk.com/resources/design/emojis/263a.png)

Removed the handles to spray paint them and dry while I work on the body of the bureau.
I used paper plates to spray the handles. This will dry within 15 minutes. At the 5 minute mark, try removing them twisting them so they don't dry to the plate![icon](https://cdn-fastly.hometalk.com/resources/design/emojis/1f605.png)

I decided that I didn't want the middle drawers fabric so I painted them a matte black. Sorry the picture is blurry but you will see the result soon![icon](https://cdn-fastly.hometalk.com/resources/design/emojis/1f609.png)

I worked on the body and drawers for two days.
I spray painted the body of the bureau very carefully to avoid drips and splatter as it drys.
Tried the handles against the drawer. It was stunning. I couldn't wait to get the rest of it done
I started to spray the top of the bureau and the nozzle started to accidentally splatter paint. At first I was upset. Then I realized that I liked the splatter the more I looked at it. I let it dry. And added another coat. All together this is about 5 coats thoroughly dry and it looks amazing.
Now it was time to start on the 6 side drawers that was left. I cut the material to fit with a little overlap and used adhesive spray super hold to at adhere the material to the drawers. I used hot glue to adhere the sides to the drawers and trimmed when dry.
I was so proud at how the drawers came out. I could wait to see the finished product of the paint on the body.
I was delighted at the result. Because the bureau is very much an old style with no mechanical runner for the drawers, I had to sand the inside edge so that the drawers could glide better with opening and closing them.
I am not an amateur DIYer but this was my first major piece. I couldn't be happier. Here's a few more pics![icon](https://cdn-fastly.hometalk.com/resources/design/emojis/1f603.png)

I did use a clear sealant to bond the paint and finish the look. It was worth it![icon](https://cdn-fastly.hometalk.com/resources/design/emojis/1f60c.png)

while I am not a fan of the shinny look or the colors used, I do like the fabric on the drawers . You did a fantantic job. I just would have chosen other colors and fabric...enjoy the pics a lot.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Hi Marsha! This is such an amazing undertaking from your start to your finish. However, I have a small question: How much fabric is needed to cover all the drawers? I didn't see it listed in your pics description. Thank you for your answers in advance. (Rose)
What material did you use for the drawer (red material)?
WOW!!!! This is fantastic ! I have a dresses you have inspired me to re-do. What fabric/product would you recommend for a jewelry cabinet I refurbished but the felt inside on doors and shelves must be replaced?
