I have done for YEARS! Every fall I bring my tomatoes in so it lengthens the production season ( live in Denver). At this time I trim my tomatoes and always stick any cuttings from plants that produce good and succulent favorites in water. I rarely buy new plants .org seeds. Pot them up before spring and walla! Ready for spring repotting!

Carol.....you're one smart farmer. If it has a root, it will grow. If it has strength and life, keep it growing. I have a pepper plant in my garage, workin' with it. It is fairly warm out there. Green bell like some coolness. I start my tomatoes from seeds from my grape tomatoes. Slice them in half and put them in starter pots for the planting season ahead. I use alot of seeds from what we eat and start early. I have a lot of critters around so I plant in pots, on my deck.....I did see a rabbit come up on the deck one day. I hope the deer don't start....ya never know. I will be starting soon. I live in VA. Voila!! (walla).

The deer in my yard didn’t mind the hair nor the Irish spring soap nor the urine! They didn’t mind the burlap wrapped tightly around my evergreens and secured with a nail (woven thru burlap) either. They just pulled it all off.

Buy Milorganite at your Home Center, we buy it at Menard's Deer will not go near it. We have deer going thru our yard all the time and they always bypass anything we have scattered Milorganite on. It is a dry fertilizer.

So I saw these motion sensored sprinklers advertised online. I thought about getting some to put around my garden beds to keep my Doberman out of my veggies but then I remembered how much she likes to play with water! Lol! Maybe it would work for your wildlife though!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
do tomato plants need a lot of water
Do you still put the stem in water to grow more roots before placing them in soil?
Anybody else have a problem with ants using your tomatoe roots as a nursery for their eggs> Mine looked sickly and were failing to thrive, so I gently pulled them up for a look. There was NO SOIL on the roots, only ant eggs (or larve ). UGG, And the ants were more near the bottom section of the soil.
