Looking for DIY Christmas decor ideas? My decor this season is all about Christmas on a budget, which means repurposing what I have on hand or making my own decor, like this Handmade Fur Cone Tree. Let me share with you this easy tutorial that is easy on the budget, too!
It all started with these cardboard craft cone trees I found at Hobby Lobby.  Usually the cone trees I find don’t have a base to them, so when I saw these in the Christmas decor section for 40% off – I snagged two of them in different sizes.

Since this handmade fur cone tree is a budget DIY, I hunted for deals and found all my supplies on clearance.

My color motif for this Christmas season is Navy and White, and it’s difficult to find Christmas decor items matching that, so I did a happy dance when I stumbled upon this furry fleece in the remnants of my fabric store.

Next, I checked out the cording and trim section and found the navy braided cord. Here’s how I made them.

First, you lay out your tree and cut the fabric to fit.  The good thing about fur is that it hides the seams really well, so your cuts can overlap a bit.

One tree was going to be a solid wrapped tree which used one single piece of fabric. I made the next tree into a layered fabric tree, which I cut the fabric into strips to size.
After you’ve made your cuts, you hot glue the fabric to the cardboard form. You can trim any excess off the bottom if you like once the glue is dry.
Finally, I wrapped the base of the tree with the navy braided cording.
So simple!

Since the nap on the fur is really small, it gives it a somewhat fuzzy look. I love how the layered fur looks!
I made the second tree into a layered fabric tree, which I cut the fabric into strips to size and followed the same steps to attached the faux fur.
It perfectly matches my blue and white Christmas decor!
