You can make a gorgeous candy wreath from an ordinary shirt hangar, wrapped candy, yarn or string, a bow, and children's scissors - makes a GREAT gift!
Materials - (1) wire shirt hanger
- Approximately 2 pounds of candy pieces with wrapped ties on each end (like Smarties, Tootsie Rolls, Double Bubble, Starlite Mints, etc.)
- A ball of thin yarn or string
- Electrical or duct tape
- Children's scissors
- Bow
Step One: Completely unbend a wire shirt hanger (leave the hanging hook intact) and form it into a round, wreath shape (with a hanging hook). Cut 14" out of the hanger (anywhere) and tape the remaining to make an 8" wreath form. Use a very strong tape like electrical tape or duct tape so it holds.
Step Two: Using a large ball of yarn or very thin string, tie a knot at the top of the wreath (under the hanger hook). Start to tie individually wrapped candies one at a time to the wreath. It is best to make slip-knots to tuck the wrapper into, similar to the way you would start a knitting or crocheting project. After you attach one piece of candy, make another slip knot and add a second, third, and so on. After every 3 or 4 pieces, tie a knot to make sure the candy doesn't slip off.
Step Three: Continue all the way around the wreath until you use up all of the wire.
Step Four: Attach a long ribbon or crocheted string (about 2 feet long) from the hook and attach a pair of children scissors so you can cut off a piece of candy. Add a bow.
And you're finished!
