Inspiration came from an image I saw in the web. After that it was not difficult to carry the idea to a piece of furniture.
This is probably the best project I worked on this year. I started with this antique chest and a pair of nightstands
I was thinking for some time how to work on them, until I saw this image on the web
I fell in love with the flowers, especially with their size, and decided to take the idea an put it on the pieces I had. After researching on the picture, I found it belonged to a Dutch painter, Jan Davidsz de Heem. It is amazing how modern it looks, although it was painted in the XVII century!
I went to a print house to have de picture printed the size I needed.
I painted the whole piece navy blue
and started cutting the flowers.
Glued them to the front using decoupage technique.
Did the same on the nightstands doors with a second print of the picture, but using only pieces of the image
Then used gold wax for the borders and added the original bronze pulls.
Look at the complete set. I found it really impressive for a modern bedroom!
Before and after. A great great change!

No, but I would hire her to do that on my bedroom furniture to brighten them up!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Can you tell me is this poster paper or tissue paper print. What is the weight of the paper. I'm sure the tissue would look great due to the fact it would not be raised but I guess it would be harder to work with. Hope you can help. Love the quality of your work. Job well done. Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful!
Where did you get a printable file to take to the printer?
