I’ve had this old Bomb proof igloo ice chest around since the 80’s so I decided to make it a new home. I make lots of pallet wood furniture and have a heap of scraps around so I went to town.
Basic pallet wood build pre-sanding all the pieces before spassembly. I also use nails that I rust myself and lots of wood glue to keep things very solid. Looking like one of those imperial walker things from Star Wars.
I made sure everything fit before I secured the igloo lid to the pallet wood lid.
I stained it with some Cabot Austrailian timber oil (Jarrah brown).
I added a brass bottle opener.
I temporarily Installed the handles inside so I could pull the tightly fit chest from the enclosure. Once in place I removed the handles and epoxied over the screw holes. After everything was in place I re-coated the entire inside of the chest with white epoxy spray paint. Worked beautifully.
Once everything was in place I installed a vintage brass spiggot then slipped a short piece of old black hose over the end to drain the chest. Why pull it out and dump it?
