This little side/telephone table just got a make over and she looks pretty!
The table was pretty banged up and had quite a few chips so it needed a makeover that would compliment the house. This is what I did.
I lightly sanded the table with a fine grit sandpaper knowing that I was going to paint over the existing stain.
- Once I did that I painted my first coat in white, a second coat in a turquoise blue and a third coat in canary yellow. The fourth coat was in white again.
- All coats were given a day to dry in between each color. This will add to the antique distressed look when sanded off at the end.
The last coat of paint was white.
- When dried I used a very fine sandpaper to remove any bumps or little pieces that got into the paint.
- Once dry, I used a tough grit sand paper and sanded areas that I wanted to distress. This took some elbow grease but well worth the time and effort.
- Once the distressing was complete, I wet a cloth and cleaned the whole cabinet. The dust gets everywhere.
- Once the piece was dried I added Fusion Tough Coat to the whole piece. This will put a protective layer onto the cabinet and help from everydays wear and tear.
- I went ahead and painted the drawers a pure white.
- Once done, I used some masking tape and made a pinstripe along the side. I painted a turquoise blue for the pin stripe. This color tied into the distressed coloring as well.
- I bought a beautiful glass drawer pull for the drawer from an antique store. This added a bit of bling yet still rustic.
This piece now sits in my kitchen beside my back door. It holds plenty in the wicker drawers and I keep pens and papers etc on the top for easy access.
Note: I mention 4 days to complete due to the paint dry times.
