My Faux Barnwood Kitchen Backsplash ( Plus a One Year Later Update)
I have been wanting to make some updates to my kitchen and I am partial to the farmhouse look, so I decided to start by adding a backsplash.
I knew I wanted a faux weathered barnwood look and after searching and not finding exactly what I wanted, I decided to try to DIY it.
I wanted to use something somewhat thin as I didn't really want to have to move/change my window trim.. so I decided to try using some leftover flooring from another project, to see what I could come up with.
So I gathered a few colors of paint, gave a piece of flooring a light sanding to give the paint something to adhere to, and got to work.
I painted different area's of the 'board', wiped some off, dry brushed some.. it went rather quickly and I was very happy with the result.
I cut the 'boards' to varying lengths so they would look staggered and have more interest. I also made sure not to paint them exactly alike. Some are darker, some have little pops of red in them and so on.
To install it I simply used my brad nailer.
I didn't want to use adhesive if I could avoid it.
I really like how it turned out and because I had most of the items used, it was actually very inexpensive.

Adding a few farmhouse theme items has helped enhance the look as well.
The Update:
It has been one year since I installed my backsplash so I thought I would put together an update on it via vlog/video.
(and I also include a quick recap of how I made it)
*keep in mind I am new to vlogs/video's.
You will notice I also chose to paint my kitchen cabinets since installing
the backsplash as well. I love how much brighter my kitchen is and the backsplash? well I still absolutely love it.

Have a question about this project?
Did you seal it against splatters and for cleaning purposes?
Would this work with leftover vinyl flooring too?
How on EARTH do you clean that? 🤣
