Ever since corn hole has come out I have wanted it! But the prices of them were unbelievable. So of course I got online to find out how to make. Next I needed to decided how I wanted to paint it. I planned to use here at home and while camping with family. And just in case it might make its way down to our vacation rental on the coast of Mississippi.
Online you can find out just about anything like regulations for corn hole! Where to cut out holes how high to make the stand and size and weight of bean bags.
We used 1/2 plywood because that is what the tutorial online told us. I think I would have used 1/4 inch next time to help with the weight. Once we got the frame around it be It is even heavier. So take my advise and use 1/4 plywood. We used 1x1‘s for the frame on the back.
I decided to go with a beach motif so that it could make its way down to the coast of MississippI. I just penciled in the starfish and went to work. Just used acrylic paint.
Next was the cornhole bags, I used a heavy duty canvas that I had left over from another project. I had plenty of iron on vinyl for my cricut so I went to work. Regulation is 6x 6 bags. Sew up 3 sides inside out and turn right side out with one open side for what I thought would be beans but regulation is corn kernels. I went to second hand store to get a food scale because each one had to be 16 ounces. I decided to do sea animals to go with my beach motif. I got all the vinyl ironed on first and then filled them with corn kernels. Then I zigzagged the last side for strength.
Well my boards are done. We added hinges and handles to transport.
I finished off with clear coat acrylic top coat. They are latched together and loading them up in camper for our trip this weekend. Can’t wait to try them out. Most boards I have found for sale are about 260 dollars. I probably have 20.00 into them.
Enjoyed the project?

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I would have liked to have seen the "handle" and "hinges" and where placed.
Are two boards "hinged" together - and then play from each side? Are the boards standing up or are they low to the ground?
Love your ideas and designs of the "beach". May make some, just need to know about the "handle" and "hinges"...placement and purpose?? Thank you.
You probably think I’m nuts but what exactly is a corn hole???? What do you do with them???
Hi, what are corn holes? I am from Australia. I have not seen them before. Thanks in advance for your reply. Kay Adelaide South Australia
