Reclamation of a Garden Space

This house needed an abundance of work to reclaim the back yard garden space. This was no small task, but with planning, many helping hands, and proper tools it was tackled. Ladies hang onto your hats, most of this was done by two hard working women.

What seems like an impossible task for this long neglected area was broken down in steps to prepare a garden. First the tall weeds and grass had to be bush hogged or mowed.

Then a tool called a weed burner was used to kill any and all of the weeds that tried to come back up. This can be purchased at many home improvement stores or ordered online from Amazon for about $40. It makes a short life of any weed! It comes with a small bottle like you use on a camp stove that can be refilled when empty. It is cane shaped and works like a torch. This saved much of the hard work! Follow the safety instructions on all tools.

Next an above ground frame was built and a small greenhouse kit put over it. The green house kits come with covers and can be ordered from Amazon for about $40 or found in several stores like Home Depot and Lowe's. Garden dirt was purchased to fill the frame and plant the new garden plants. Later in the season the plants were transferred to permanent spots in the garden.

Then tomatoes were set along one edge. The cages support the vines as they grow and branch out.

What a difference it made! It looks like a new garden and yard! It was difficult, but not impossible, and the use of the weed burner made it even easier.
