I truely LOVE textiles and almost anything related to textiles. Arzu Firuz is a textile artist that creates beautiful rugs out of vinyl. I have decided it was time for me to make one for myself.
An example of Arzu Firuz work.
My supplies-vinyl, liner, spray adhesive and a knife.
I determined the size I needed and traced it out. This will go in front of the kitchen sink so it doesn’t need to be large. There are so many right angles in the kitchen, so I went with a round shape.
After I cut the vinyl, I cut out the liner to fit the circle. My tip-Rug liners were a bit pricey for me so I used spongy drawer liners instead. It definetely won’t slide.
I took both outside and sprayed the adhesive on the back of the vinyl. I then placed the liner on the back and pressed. It adhered pretty quickly.
I decided what shapes to put on the rug. I traced them on the rug with chalk. I used chalk so I could easily erase if I needed to adjust placement of a shape. My tip-After I found the center, I made a grid of circles so that I had lines to help place the shapes.
I carefully cut out the shapes with the knife and a small pair of scissors.
I think it turned out pretty good!

AWESOME
It turned out really well. Did you get the vinyl from a fabric store? And was there a special blade you used w/ your X-acto knife? The new blades on mine wouldn't cut through that.
What is the size of your circle?
Does the vinyl that you used have a cloth-like backing to it? Did you have a problem with the fibers showing, or were you able to trim them off? I really like this DIY!
