Bringing a Beautiful Antique Back to Life

I have been painting furniture for about two years now, and until recently stain intimidated me. I'm making friends with it, especially after this piece came my way. Now, I love working with stain, and this is one of my favorite projects to date!
Gorgeous antique needed TLC
This piece had all its original craftsmanship and hardware but badly needed reviving!
Carefully sanded veneer top
I used my Ryobi Corner Cat to bring back the fantastic wood grain on top.
I used the Plaster Paint Company's Black Tie paint on the body, mirror and mirror stand.
I used Minwax stain in Early American to match the lighter wood tones on the drawer fronts.
I used a Minwax stain stick/marker to touch up the chipped areas of the veneer on the drawer fronts.
Brasso brought the original hardware back to vibrant life! Slow, tedious work, but oh so worth it.
I finished everything with a few coats of Minwax Polycrylic, including the cleaned-up drawer fronts.
This piece didn't need a completely different look, and it didn't need to be covered up by paint. It needed some TLC to bring out its beauty, and now it's ready for the next few decades, I hope!
