DIY White Boards for $5!

You know this current obsession with chalk boards? Not this girl! All that dust on your fingers and in the air, and the rough texture of the chalk board - don't even get me started on the sound it makes when you write on it. So when the girls wanted a board to draw on in their playroom, I knew a chalk board was out, and a white board was in order.
I have this little obsession with whiteboards. I could draw on them all day long - I love how smooth the markers are when they write, and how the marker just wipes right off... However, one thing I don't love about white boards? If you've ever priced them out, you'll know this. Those bad boys are pricey! There was no way I was getting my daughters each one at those prices, and there was no way I was listening to them fight over one. But at the same time, there was even less of a chance that I was getting a rough and scratchy chalkboard.
My solution? The same thing it usually is when faced with the option of not getting what I want: DIY it and get exactly what I want. I wanted two big white boards and I didn't want to sell my leg, soul, or firstborn child to get it. Heck, I didn't even want to give them any more than $20!
So how did I make two whiteboards for $10? I found this little known product at the hardware store called markerboard, and paired it with an inexpensive trim molding which I had spray painted. Grand total? Less than $20.
