Wooden Napkin Rings - Repurposed Into Wreath
Likely the most thrilling part of thrift shopping is being inspired to totally transform a piece into something different and better.
I adore a great repurposed project because when it comes to stretching those creative muscles and making something different, unexpected, and unique, a repurposed project just can’t be beat!
So when I found a set of wooden napkin rings at the thrift store, I knew a new repurposed project was happening soon.
I remember my mom having some similar napkin rings when I was growing up, and apparently someone had decided that theirs were past their best day and needed to be donated to the thrift store.
I love to thrift shop - and I love to find old, outdated, and even sometimes quirky things to bring home and transform.
Throughout my history of shopping, I've developed some winning hacks that I use every time I shop - and they never let me down. Using them, I always come away with something interesting.
This project is from hack #5 - Think Outside the Box.
One way I do that is to change the orientation of pieces. So when I put these rings on their sides, and began thinking, I saw something totally different - a wreath!
Here's how I made it:
- I started by arranging the rings in a circle and measuring the diameter - 9".
- Next, I cut a 9" piece of card stock to use as a template so I would keep the circle nice and even as I worked.
- Finally, I used construction adhesive to connect the rings and let it dry for 24 hours.
After the adhesive was dry, I painted it metallic silver.
I found some pretty faux flowers, and grabbed some satin ribbon from my stash.
Then I glued the flowers into the holes of the rings, and wove the ribbon through two of the top rings and tied it in a bow for hanging.
Now I have a cute little wreath and those old donated wooden napkin rings are put to use again!
