Built in Pantry Organization

10 Materials
2 Days

The home we moved into had wire racks in the pantry which made it difficult to store items. Also, one of the shelves was missing and that made for a lot of unused space. We decided to update our pantry to make it more user friendly and give us more storage.

We wanted to use the OXO storage containers we had on hand and loved as a guide for how much space needed to be between each of the shelves. We also used the dog food container to determine how low the first shelf could be to the floor.

We marked where the shelves would go on the wall with painters tape. We then used 1" x 2" wood pieces to act as a support to the wood shelves.

We used a brad nailer to temporarily secure the wood supports to the wall. Then we predrilled pilot holes into the studs and attached the supports with screws.

We painted the supports white to match the walls and gave the shelves a coat of stain and polyurethane.

The shelves span wall to wall, with the bottom shelf and the middle shelf about double the width of the other three shelves.

We repeated the process of adding the supports and checking the shelves to make sure that there would be adequate space for the containers.

Once all of the shelves were in place, it was time to organize the food. We grouped everything into like items: baking, snacks, dinner foods, lunch foods etc. Then we placed them the shelves accordingly.

We gained so much additional and sturdy storage space.
