I was contemplating a little tiered stand to put on the kitchen counter. Sadly, I am one of “those” people that can never make a decision. 🤷‍♀️ I mean, what if I buy it and next week change my mind. 😂 I stopped at the dollar store and decided to grab a couple items and take a stab at creating my own! Here is that journey. 🤣

Two square plates and a glass candlestick...that looks like the start to a nice little stand, right?

I knew I wouldn’t want that clear glass...so, chalk paint to the rescue! Since I use a lot of chalk paint on furniture projects, I have quite the collection of "leftover” bottles.

Chalk paint is one of those awesome paints that is so versatile. I decided to go with a base coat of gray. In hindsight, I should have used a cream, but it's okay. I waited about 30 minutes and gave it a second coat.

Next up, some aqua. You could use any color that will compliment the room you plan to put your stand in, and a base coat is NOT necessary. Just allow paint to dry for around 30 minutes between coats. Two coats should be plenty!!

Using some fine grit sandpaper (I use 320 grit for this step), have fun with some distressing. This step is also optional, it all depends on what "look" you are going for. If the distressed look isn't for you...skip it! I wanted to protect my paint, so I used some spray sealer that I had laying around.

I felt my aqua was a bit on the "bright" side for my taste...so glaze to the rescue! I LOVE this glaze, and use it a lot. You just brush it on....

Grab a paper towel or damp rag, and wipe off as little or much as you want! It give the piece a nice "aged" look. I was much happier with it after the glaze. After my glaze dried a couple of hours, I went ahead and gave it another coat with my spray sealer.

Somewhere in the process of working on this...I decided it would be a really neat feature if it could spin! Amazon to the rescue! I ordered a lazy susan turntable....E6000 (an amazing glue folks) to hold it all together.

And done! I think it turned out pretty darn cute...and gave me so many ideas for different ones. I can't wait to test out some ideas this project gave me.

A cute spot to have those grab and go items...keys, gum, mints, lip balms. What would you use one for?
