Luau Birthday Party in Our Backyard

Today I’m sharing my hubs 50th Luau Birthday Party. Whether you are celebrating a birthday or not, Luau's are always fun things to do on the weekend, great for a staycation and you can find the décor or make it very inexpensively.

I made the Summer Fabric Banner with fabric I bought and cut a duvet I had for under $20 and it is hung all across our patio and down the fence of our pool. This was a great way to add a lot of color and I've had them up for two summers and we love them. I found those paper lanterns at the beginning of Summer at the Dollar Store and just added batteries and we can switch them on at night. Our friends loaned us tables and chairs so we saved by not having to rent them and I bought paper tablecloths at Party City. I LOVE the pops of color here.

Last week I made this fun Aloha Summer Luau Flip Flop Wreath out of a pool noodle and flip flops for about $3.

A while back I took this bar our friends found for us and added Tiki inspired Reed Fencing for a Tiki Bar Makeover (for $10) and with the leftover Reeds I made this Tiki bar Sign and some great coastal candleholders and you can see posts here on Hometalk.

I found these shabby baskets and shared them on my Tuesday Treasures here and some of the other party finds at Tuesday Treasures here. Everyone could grab a lei on their way into the party and leave it at the door if they wanted too. I bought a bunch of leis at the beginning of summer at the Dollar Store and the 99 Cents stores and they came in packs of 5 and 6 for $1.00. Later I did see that Party City had larger boxes of them of 50 and 100 count too.

Here is the food table and I wish I would have gone back to take better pics when all the food was on it. I made the Hawaiian Floral Tablecloth out of the Duvet that I cut up for the Fabric Banner too. I used fun pails and buckets from the 99 Cents store and layered them. I found some Tiki inspired décor at thrift stores and my daughter and I made Flip Flop cookies the night before.

I made these Bamboo Coastal Candleholders here with Dollar Store Vases and the leftover Reed Fencing and added big fish netting I found at the Dollar Store, with the vases and some shells around. They were so pretty at night and I use them in my living room too. For $1 each.

Our Tiki Bar was so fun to gather around and I found the Steelers Bar Stools on Craig’s List for $70 and my husband is stoked and they are super cute in his Steeler Tv Mancave.

I had some dry wall scraps in my garage and painted up some fun Surf or Luau themed art and placed it down our long driveway so our friends knew right where the party was. This was a very fun and easy way to add some color for just a few dollars worth of craft paint (and a lot I already had).

This was actually where a lot of the art inspiration came from. I wanted to paint a big back drop picture that we could take pictures in front of because I knew we had this big piece of dry wall just sitting in our garage. I looked on Pinterest for inspiration and was a little nervous to do it but was really happy with the way it turned out. I like it so much I’m keeping it in our backyard and it only cost about $5 for the paint.

I created a little photo booth area on a small patio behind our garage. It was perfect and we took lots of pictures in the beginning and it ended up being a fun place to gather and watch friends in the pool too.
