Decorate A Tiny Birdhouse For Spring Decor
I love to change the decorations in my house a bit for each season and holiday. However, I usually find that I need to buy a few things each time to add a new look to my house. But this spring, I was able to upcycle this cute birdhouse into some fresh decor for my home.
I have a basket hanging in my guest bath that I like to fill each season with holiday decor. This spring, I felt my basket was looking a little blah. So I went digging into my craft supplies for a new idea. I had this little wooden birdhouse leftover from a wreath I had made. I thought, with some sprucing up, this birdhouse might be the perfect addition to my spring decor.
First, I gave the birdhouse a white wash with some acrylic paint. Then I painted the roof a bluish gray color and the underside a pale yellow.
I wanted to add some garden details to my birdhouse using scrapbook paper. So I cut some pieces of paper for the front and sides that looked like tall grass.
I cut some other sections in different shapes and different paper to create a layered look to my grass detail.
I glued these grass pieces to the front and sides of my birdhouse using Modge Podge.
Then I added a little heart over the opening of my birdhouse. I just cut this freehand out of some scrapbook paper by folding the paper in half and cutting half the heart shape out of the paper.
I also wanted to add some decoration to the roof of my birdhouse. So I sketched a simple dragonfly and butterfly on some paper to use as a template.
I used my templates to cut each section of the dragonfly out of different decorative paper. I used a paper punch to make some gold dots for the wings and a button for the head.
Then I used Modge Podge to glue my dragonfly to one side of my birdhouse roof.
I used the same techniques and materials to make a butterfly for the other side of the roof. Here, I added some plastic gemstones for decoration on the wings.
As the last step, I added a clay bird to the perch of my birdhouse. You can find a tutorial for making this polymer clay bird on my blog.
I also glued a short piece of dowel to the bottom of my birdhouse to help it stand in my basket.
I think I need to add a few more flowers, but I really love how my spring basket looks. This little decorative birdhouse is a lovely addition!
