Sometimes an old chair just needs a little bit of paint!

A few years ago I found this old chair at a thrift shop for $1. We needed some cheap dining chairs, so I bought it. With a bit of paint (that I already had on hand) I added a fun pattern to this chair.

To get started I used a 1.5 inch hole punch to pop out a bunch of holes in a sheet of paper. I made a quick polka dot template.

I tried a little test spot of gold paint straight on to the chair, but it wasn’t as bold as I wanted. So instead, using my polka dot template and some  Martha Stewart Multi Purpose white paint, I painted random dots on the chair. It takes about 15 minutes to apply all the dots. Let the white paint dry completely.

When the paint is dry, apply the first coat of gold paint ( Martha Stewart Multi Purpose Gold Paint). I applied this free-hand (could be done with the template). Apply multiple coats (with dry time in between each application) until you no longer see the white showing through.

Let the chair dry for 24 hours before using. We had this chair for about 5 years and the polka dots barely faded.
