DIY Fruit and Flower Table Centerpiece
Create an easy arrangement and centerpiece for your table using fruit and flowers with these easy shortcuts and tips, no floral foam required.
My Mikasa Antique Orchard dinnerware provided my arrangement and table inspiration, using fruit and flowers from the grocery store.
I started with my galvanized caddy for a centerpiece for the table
As the caddy isn’t watertight, I decided to use mason jars inside the caddy to hold the flowers. The caddy measures 23” L x 6“ W x 4” T. My Ball Elite Wide Mouth Pint Jars were just the right height (3.75 inches) for the caddy.
Use newspaper or plastic bags from the grocery store, placing them between the jars to keep them from shifting, once they’re filled with water and flowers. This method also makes it easy to replace individual flowers as they fade and change your vase water. Pack your plastic bags or newspaper in tightly so they can support the weight of the fruit in the arrangement.
I cut some Endless Summer Hydrangeas that have faded from the vibrant spring blues to the muted and softer greens of summer and are almost to the ‘papery’ stage and ready to dry. Use the alum-dipping method to keep your hydrangeas from wilting and always add the floral preservative packets to your vase water for longer lasting flowers. Floral preservative packets usually come with your flowers or most grocery stores have a basket of packets you can help yourself to when buying flowers. If you don’t have any floral preservative, you can make your own with this easy formula.
Clusters of grapes as well as pears were tucked in between the jars and added to the centerpiece.
Alstroemeria and peach spray roses joined the hydrangeas next, along with some greens sprigs of bupleurum. I tucked in some peaches to nestle in the arrangement among the flowers and to fill in any bare space between the jars.

This is a fun and easy centerpiece to create using fruit and flowers from the grocery store and /or garden for any season. Half the cost in the arrangement is the fruit which makes it more affordable, as the fruit is edible when you're finished with your centerpiece on your table.
