I’ve been on a wood kick lately.

All of those great wood pieces I’ve found at thrift stores got me in the groove and I’m a little happily stuck there now.

So when I spotted more wood at Michael's, those cute little wood slices were more than I could resist.

I’ve seen a few wood slice ornaments lately and wanted to make my own, so I bought the bag of birch rounds and grabbed my container of chalk paint…which I also seem to be addicted to lately. 🙂

First, I painted a single coat on the cut sides, leaving the bark unpainted.

I love the character of that papery bark and wanted to keep it natural and rustic.

Next – stencils.

I used the same ones I designed for the  wood block signs but adjusted the size, making a small, medium, and large stencil with each Christmas symbol.

I used black craft paint for the transfers for a nice crisp contrast.

Finally, I added small eye screws to the top of each ornament and strung a piece of jute twine through.

I added them to my mini Christmas tree with an easy wood (imagine that!) bead garland.

Wood! 🙂

Kinda perfect.

That sweet shy deer still enchants me.
