Restore a bed? Are you wanting to change the color? If so, you will need to sand the headboard and all other parts. Then prime and paint. If that's not what you mean, please re-group and come back to us with more details.
What kind of bed are you working with? wood or metal?
If it's wood and the condition is poor, you may want to strip off the old finish and give it a new one. I recommend Citristrip. If you prefer to paint it, chalk paint is a good option.
