Hi ! I painted my countertops using advance paint by Benjamin Moore and their primer . First I cleaned my the countertops with 2 products by Krud Kutter , their de greased and their de glosser . Then I used a sanding sponge to lightly scuff the countertop . Make sure you wipe up all of the dust !!! Then I used one coat of primer and 2 coats of paint , letting each coat dry thoroughly before starting the next coat .
I was told that I didn't need to seal it , so I didn't . I can say that they held up pretty well for about 2 1/2 years , although I was careful , I always used a cutting board and always used a trivet to put under hot pots or pans . After awhile I did put on another coat of paint ( there was plenty left over ) I saw a few tiny spots of the primer show through ( the primer was white , and I used a charcoal paint ) I was probably the only one who noticed them , they were that tiny ! Two things to keep in mind ~ 1. You need to let the paint cure for 10 days and 2. If you decide to use a seal over the paint , be sure it is good grade ! You can see my step by step process , along with tips on my tutorial I posted on this site called New kitchen on a budget . Good luck !
Hi , here are some picture to go along with my earlier answer . The pictures show the before, the white primer , the painted countertop & the finale re do .
That is beautiful. This has been on my list of projects for awhile
I used ENVIROTEX resin. Totally ok around food and they use it on bar tops. I painted my kitchen countertops with stone spray and made it look granite like. Then poured envirotex resin on top of it. You might want to make a frame for the sides of the countertop because the edges are tricky to get a smooth finish. But whatever you do, cover the lower cabinets with plastic because when it gets poured, it will drip down off the sides. Follow the directions on the box and you will love the result. For a few years after we did it, people thought it was granite. Good Luck! Then you use a blow torch to get all the bubbles out. Google tutorials. It's a great product and our countertops have held up for years now. People ask me if it was real granite. I think we used 5-6 boxes of envirotex for our countertops. Totalling around $300. hope this helps. It definitely has extended our old pink laminate countertops for another 5-6 years before we can afford real granite or quartz. Good Luck!
