Hi! What a great idea! If you line it, it seems like a great project! I read several tutorials and really liked this one.

Here's an easy one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSO_2KI8aEA
The afghan in the picture/video above works as a pouf cover because it was constructed (in this case crochet) in a round shape to begin with. If your afghan is already made and it is square or rectangular in shape, it will not fit nearly as tightly or as smoothly around a pouf ottoman base. A crocheted or knitted item cannot be trimmed down to size unless it has seams.
There are lots of posts here on pouf/ottomans.

Maybe this can help - just use the afghan instead of a sweater: https://alicewingerden.com/2014/10/diy-sweater-pouf-ottoman/
I love that idea!
I found these examples of repurposing crochet afghans into various items of clothing. It is questionable though how practical some of them may be.....
'Good for a look and laugh though if not for anything else.

You could use this tutorial, but instead of using the chunky yard, wrap the pouf with your afghan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QXqeF-EKDs Good luck!
