A Touch of Spring
I love this time of year! Flowers blooming, birds singing, and warmer days put me in the mood for spring crafting projects. Today I'm sharing one of those projects - a cute jute nest.
You will need a styrofoam ball. You can choose the size. Using a knife cut the ball in half.
Cover the dome part with inexpensive packing tape. You do not need to fold the tape under to cover the flat section. (Use inexpensive tape because it is less sticky.)
To stop the twine rope from unraveling, you will use a thinner twine to make a whipping knot. To do so:
a) Place the thin twine on the rope. You will make a loop at the cut
end.
b) Wrap the twine around the rope starting at the opposite end. I
wrapped it around 6 times.
c) Cut the twine, leaving enough to pull through the loop. Insert the
cut end into the loop.
d) Pull the opposite end to close the loop. You will pull the loop under
the twine you wrapped. Pull it until you feel it is about half way
under the wrapped twine.
e) Pull both loose end to tighten and clip the excess twine.
Begin wrapping the twine rope while glueing along the side of the rope.
Continue wrapping and glueing until you get close to the edge of the flat side of the foam ball. Determine how much more rope you will need to finish and then cut rope. You will leave about 3 inches loose.
Remove the styrofoam ball. You may have to do a little prying. The tape will remain in the nest. You can pull off any loose pieces and trim any that may show.
Follow the same directions in Step 3 for making a whipping knot to keep the loose end of the rope from unraveling. Glue the rest of the loose section.
I found Spanish Moss at the Dollar Tree to add inside the nest.
To complete this project, I added colorful eggs from Michaels.
The perfect addition to add a touch of spring to my dining table.
