How to Stencil a Bulletin Board
I bet there's a good chance you have an old bulletin board at home. If not, you can readily find one at your local thrift store for just a couple dollars. They can be handy and functional for posting reminders, upcoming events, favorite recipes and photos. However, they aren't typically the most eye-appealing! Give a plain cork board a chic makeover with stencils and chalk paint using this simple tutorial. I turned my bulletin board into a pantry command station. I transformed a plain bulletin board into a pretty command station for my pantry with a stencil from Martha Stewart and chalk paint. Any type of craft paint will do if you don't have chalk paint.
You'll need:
- A plain cork bulletin board
- Chalk paint or acrylic craft paint
- Brushes
- Stencil (I used home decor stencils from Martha Stewart)
- Masking tape
If your cork board has a frame, start by taping it over with masking tape. Then apply a base coat of paint to the entire bulletin board, adding a second coat if necessary. The nice thing about chalk paint is that it goes on so easily; one coat is typically all you need.
Apply the stencil by lining it up straight and taping it in place. Use an up and down motion with your brush to apply the paint. Repeat until you have covered the entire bulletin board.
Remove the tape covering your frame and let dry!
