From Work Bench to Beautiful Coastal Vibe Table
A neighbor was getting rid of things and asked me if I wanted bench. I said “Yes, of course!” I knew we could make it look spectacular.
We added a 1” by 3” piece of pine wood to the bottom shelf sides for a more complete look.
The top was a little beat up and had some oil stains. We talked about various ways to take care of it. Do we sand it down? Throw some paint on it? Cover it with pallet wood?
We looked through our stash of wood and found some pallet pieces that were the same thickness. They were then cut to the same depth for both the top and lower shelf.
There were many, many pieces to sand! 28 to be exact!
We laid out all the pieces for a last check to see how they fit. Then, we made a list of which ones to paint and which color. To start with, we painted the bench all white.
We then painted each piece twice and sanded them, once again, to give them a distressed look. This all took quite a bit of time but it was well worth it!
We didn’t want screws or nail holes to show from the top. So we used Gorilla Glue to adhere the slats. We pre-drilled the holes as not to split the wood. Then, we screwed the boards from underneath.
This was definitely a two person job!
This angle just didn’t look right. So we cut another slat to fill this in at the ends to make it look more complete.
This completed the look that we were going for.
We love the way it turned out. Hope you do too!

Whatever you use it for it's so cute. What comes to my mind is a place to put drinks and other small items near a pool.
