How to (temporarily) Upholster a Metal Headboard

5 Materials
2 Hours

This is an old project but a super budget friendly hack! I had an old metal bed and really wanted an upholstered look. However, I didn't want to spend $$$ on a new bed! So, I created this hack to add a temporary upholstered look. Here's how to do it!

This is the before of my headboard

Lay out materials

Lay the peg board down on the foam.

Cut foam

Cut the foam to the size of your board plus a 1 inch border around the edge.

Add fabric

Lay it on top of your fabric, bad side up. Pull it TIGHT over the edge and staple. We do a center staple & one on each side, then fill in.

Continue to staple around the whole rectangle, pulling tight.

Trim fabric

Trim excess fabric

Add zip ties

Thread zip ties through the holes in the pegboard, down into one hole and out the next hole.

Attach to headboard

Use zip ties to attach to the headboard. Pull tight and trim excess of plastic zip tie.

The after!

This is how my headboard looked after! And, when I got sick of it, I simply cut the zip ties and it went back to normal! Super easy!

Simple and cute. But I think I would have put the zip ties on first before all the fabric. Would be easier.
