How to replace sides on chest of drawers
I found an awesome old chest of drawers at a second hand/antique shop. Unfortunately when I picked it up after purchasing I found it has sustained water damage and about a foot of each side is badly warped. How difficult is it to remove the sides of the chest of drawers and replace them with new wood? Has anyone done a similar repair?

The easiest thing to do would be to cover the old sides. Could you do that without taking the old would off? You could then do it with adhesive and nails.
When you say warped, I think you are talking about the wood veneer. I would remove the veneer and paint it. Removing veneer is not easy, however, I found a way to make it SOOOO much easier. Check out my post on Hometalk:

How to Repair Peeling Wood Veneer
Hi! Without a picture I am guessing that it is veneer. Remove the veneer and you may find solid hardwood underneath. I usually use heat, moisture and a scraper to get the veneer off that hasn't lifted. A tool I have used is my wallpaper steamer. Quick and faster than the hot water and old towels I have used. No steamer? A bucket of hot water and clean rags or towels will work it loose. Once you've cleaned it up, you should be able to use what is there. Want a different look? Beadboard, paint, thin wood, there are lots of options. They even make self stick covering that looks like wood, marble, etc. Hope that helps! Good luck and stay safe!
The sides of the chest are basically the structure. Removing them would not be easy. Best solution would be to strip away and cut out the damaged area. Cover the sides with 1/4" plywood. Stain the plywood panels or paint the whole chest.
You could buy some paneling and nail it right to the sides of the chest. Or just get a good grade plywood, then you can paint or stain to match the chest.
I would cover with a paneling and stain or paint the whole piece.

Unfortunately water damage can lead to the drawers sticking and not working correctly over time. Can you take the piece apart and use the pieces to construct something new? I repurpose old furniture all the time at Homeroad.net
Hello there,
Maybe instead of replacing the sides, you could cover them over with a thin MDF. It would be quicker and you would not need to dismantle or undermine the structure of the chest of drawers. Best wishes.
Depends on what tools you have and how comfortable with them you are for how hard it is.
Some times it’s only the surface that’s warped I think you could remove that part that’s damaged sand what’s left and paint if the wood is still bad get thin plywood and cut to fit the side and just put it over the side glue and nail if it sticks out alittle on the side add a trim piece.
