Hello. Do you wish to chalk paint or refinish the wood?
Personally I love this refurb.

What sort of finish are you looking for? Natural? Painted?
It depends on the condition of the wood. Sometimes a good cleaning is all that's needed. If the finish is badly damaged, you may need to sand, stain, and apply a protective finish.
Sand and restain or paint with chalk paint, milk paint of use a gel stain.
Hi! Do you want to paint or stain? What type of finish does it have now? Generally, I would strip it with Citristrip, clean off any residue and after it's dry, sand it. If I was painting it, I would prime it first with Kilz. If you're staining the wood, you will need to get all the old finish off so that the stain can absorb into the wood. A clear drying sealer will protect your new finish. Good luck and stay safe!
Depends what you have to start with. And how much work you want to put into it. Please provide us some pictures, thank you.
There's a couple of ways you can do this:
Use a stripper, Citrix is a non-toxic one which is water based. Sand after the cleanup.
Give the piece of furniture a good wash down with warm soapy water and a rag, remove all the hardware, sand off the old stain with an orbital sander-smoothing out any rough spots.
To finish:
Stain-take off the existing finish so the wood can take up the new stain. Then poly to protect, you select the level of gloss you'd like.
Paint, sand first so the primer can stick to the wood, then paint. If you use chalk paint there is no need to sand first, but use a wax to protect the finish, chalk paint will chip off if unprotected.
Sounds like a fun project.
