Every few days I always pour some vinegar in my trap to help cut down on smell etc. I think that would take care of your problem here too
Well you learn something everyday. I have never heard of drain flies, but I will be ready when they come.https://youtu.be/aK8EKsJqfPY
yes, I would pour vinegar down the drain for actual drain flies.
However, I find it hard sometimes to know the difference between drain flies and gnats since sometimes gnats will combine around the sink and drain as well.
For gnats,
I have found the best thing they are attracted to is a SOUR BEER!!!!!! Leave some out in a shallow cup and see them swarm! You might want to use plastic wrap with poked holes too to trap them in. When they are swarming you can also spray with hairspray but then you will have to start over with your trap. Good luck!
Hi, this is Peggy. You really need to take care of the blockage in your sink, probably where the drain flies are coming from. Hope this helps. Search Results

Pour in 1/2 cup of salt and 1/2 cup of baking soda plus a cup of white vinegar. Allow it to work its magic overnight then flush the drain with hot or boiling water the next morning. This will sanitize the drain and kill the flies and their eggs.

What causes drain flies?
In most cases, several breeding sources will be present. Drain flies, or moth flies, can be found in moist, highly organic debris areas such as sink drains, moist mops, sewage treatment facilities, storm drains, dung and rotten vegetation.
Lemon juice should help as well
I clean drains with one half cup of soda, and 1 cup of vinegar. I put something over the the hole in the sink and let it set for 30 min. to an hour. Then I pour a gallon of boiling water down the drain. That might help on the pest too. Hope something helps.
I use the same ingredient recipe as Mogie, when the fizzing stops I flush with very hot water from the faucet, the boiling water may loosen the pvc plumbing connections under the sink. The put the stopper over the drain when done rinsing.
I pour vinegar down the drain and that seems to get rid of them.
Hello Lisbon Lion,
Spray Fly Spray down the sink. leave it, then when you come back, flush some disinfectant down into the drain.
I also pour vinegar down the drain. Keeps things smelling fresh, too!
Clean by pouting a cup of baking soda then a cup of white vinegar. Cover. Boil water and pour down the drain after at least 15 minutes. Repeat if needed.
vinager should work and add baking soda let sit for 20 min then wash down with hot hot water
Clean the drain a few times using baking soda and vinegar. If that doesn't work, pour a little bleach in there making sure it does down the sides of the drain.
Hi Becky, I had "Baking Powder" in the Cupboard and used that ( advised on here) but I was told to use Bicarb of Soda, so I got that today, Im just after "putting it down the Sink ( 5 mins ago) with Vinegar and Bleach, ( about "half a bottle", the advice was "1 Cap full to a Gallon of Water", well, if a "Half Gallon" won't get rid of them, I don't know what will, lol. There's not a "Load of Them", I only see one at a time, but their must be more, I Ordered a Pizza last night and just took "2 Slices", then "half hour later I went in to get another piece, and "Guess" what? Yup, one in the "Pizza Box", Ugh, I nearly "Freaked Out", I couldn't believe it, needless to say, the Pizza went Out in the Rubbish, I hope they have gone for tomorrow or I'm calling the "Pest Control", I know how it started, I had a Leak under the kitchen sink, which was the Plumbers fault as I had fixed it, but I got him back out and he didn't Connect the Pipes right and "That's" what causes the Gnats, Damp, and Wet, and they "Breed like Rabbits", I couldn't believe that I have them as I am "Ultra-Clean", to the point of having, OCD, I will Dream about them, Nightmare more like, I will let you know if "Your Tip and Advice Worked", Becky, Say a Prayer for me. Ciao for Now.
I think, well, I hope I have got Rid of them now, I haven't seen any so far today, but, they can pop up anytime, I was lying on the Sofa watching TV, I dozed off for a minute, opened my eyes and there was one on my Chest, I nearly "Freaked Out", Thanks again, Ciao. You
