Hi Barb, wood puddy is always a good option. Fill it in with the puddy, sand it and then either stain it to match or repaint the door.
You can buy touch up sticks for wood. They're kind of like soft crayons. They come in lots of colors so you can fill the crack really well.
Take a look here, it also describes the difference between wood filler and wood putty:

Make sure you test whatever you put in the crack if you plan to stain it. I've had such trouble finding stainable wood putty/filler despite the label saying that it's stainable.
If the crack is through the wood, glue it with wood glue and clamp it. Wipe off any excess glue and let it dry overnight.
If it's a small crack... wood putty and then a staining crayon should work.
You can try woos filler mixed with wood glue. If the crack is all the way thru and it's solid wood it will hold for a while. Solid wood panels tend to split with expansion and contraction due to weather changes, moisture and dry air. Just a part of life with solid wood doors. You can caulk but it always shows since you can't sand it flat.

You can fill with wood putty. Durham's is a powder and you add water to the consistency you desire. If you are going to paint, it's fine "as is" but if you are going to stain you need to add it to the putty before you apply it.
Hi Barb,
You could use Wood filler and then when dry , rub it down and use a coloured wax or Crayon or Sharpie to colour it in or a liquid shoe polish. Then Buff it up. Best wishes
I would do wood filler and then sand it down. You then can match it putty to the color of the door with some paint.

Hello. I would suggest using a stainable wood filler and then depending upon the color of your wood using a stain marker or stain to disguise.
I would use wood putty and a plastic scraper to fill it, and remove any excess. Then sand smooth, prime and paint. You can find the putty in various wood colors in the paint section of most home stores.... its a tiny jar.
If it's wood, wood filler, sand, and stain or paint.
You can use a wood filler.
