Guest Bathroom Renovation

Totally usable, but definitely in need of some updating and personality!

First, I painted all of the walls and trim white to brighten the room. (I am a messy painter, so please disregard the smears all over the window! I scraped them off later! LOL)

Then, I added board and batten trim using MDF boards. It is a simple process....Just cut your boards to length, then add a bit of Liquid Nails to the back, and then air-nail them into place on the walls.

I removed the original trim around the bottom of the window and replaced it with a piece of 1x4 MDF to make it match the board and batten trim.

After your boards are in place and the Liquid Nails has dried, caulk around all of the edges to give you a smooth look. Also, spackle any nail holes, gaps, etc so everything will look seamless. This is actually the longest part of the project.

After all the caulk and spackle has dried, paint over the board and batten to match your walls....I used the same white paint as I did on the walls.

The next step was to remove the old vanity and the old toilet.

Please notice the fact that the original vanity was put in place BEFORE the tile floor was added, so we had to find a new vanity that would fit into the same exact footprint as the original one, or else we would have to rip out the tile floor....something we did not want to do if possible.

I also removed the plastic trim pieces around the existing mirror because I am going to trim them with wood later.

We replaced the toilet and vanity with modern white fixtures that match our nautical home decor much better.

Because of the tile floor situation, we ended up having the vanity custom built to fit into the footprint from the old vanity. We used a local cabinet maker and he did a fabulous job of creating the style I wanted.

We added a new quartz countertop in Galaxy White. It is hard to tell in the picture, but the speckles are shades of pale grey, pale blue and a few mirror sparkles that reflect lots of light.

We chose a rectangular sink and a single handle faucet to make it easy to use and easy to clean....plus it blended well with the modern nautical look.

I chose a heavy, matte finish black handle for the cabinet drawers. I ordered them from Build.com. I love the contrast with the white wood.

The cabinet knobs are also a heavy style in a matte black finish. They came from Build.com as well.

I bought this fabulous light fixture at Lowes, and it fit perfectly into the room. It is hard to tell in the picture, but it is a brushed stainless color.

I used fluted trim molding and wooden bullseyes to trim out the mirror edges. Just cut the molding to length and use Liquid Nails to apply them to the mirror. Use painter's tape to hold them in place while they dry.

I painted the mirror trim in the same shade of white as the rest of the room.

Misc nautical decor from Homegoods, Old Time Pottery, Target, and millions of thrift sales, Facebook Marketplace and yard sales!

Chambray blue and white striped shower curtain from Amazon.

White flour sack towels used as curtains....Bought on Amazon, and hung with a black tension rod and small black curtain rings and clips.

(Can you see that I scraped all of the old paint off the window?!? LOL)

This is one of my favorite items in our house! It was a wonderful find on Facebook Marketplace....Only $10!!!!

I filled it with misc nautical items that we have accumulated over the years.

This basket came from Thirty-one Gifts....and is perfect for a guest bathroom!

You can keep extra rolls of paper handy so guests don't have to go hunting for it....plus it looks super cute!

We have a lot of out-of-town guests that come to visit (We live at the beach! LOL), so I like to provide misc amenities in the bathroom for them in case they forget something.

This wooden tray from Hobby Lobby corrals a few toiletries, as well as washcloths and decor.

There was not a lot of space for a towel bar, so I decided to use boat cleats attached to the board and batten trim to hang towels behind the door.

This shows the view from the other end of the room.....We will eventually paint the door handles and replace the hinges throughout the house with brushed stainless, but that's a project for another day!

Small, but efficient!

I am so happy with the way this little bathroom turned out. I love how bright and cheerful it is, and it definitely fits in with the modern nautical look of the rest of our house now!
