Thieves Oil Foaming Hand Soap Recipe
Learn how to make a Thieves oil foaming hand soap recipe. Thieves oil is an old essential oil blend that's said to kill germs. This is an easy and inexpensive recipe that takes about 5 minutes to make!
What is Thieves Oil?
According to legend, a group of thieves escaped getting sick in the middle ages by using a blend of essential oils. They finally got caught and gave up their recipe. Or so they say.
Defender
Thieves oil is available from a big MLM essential oil company, but I use the Defender blend from Simply Earth. It has the same oils in it, but it's a lot cheaper. Liquid castile soap is a gentle soap that's made with water, lye, and olive oil. Some brands also add coconut oil, which is also very mild. It's odorless, but it does give the soap a yellow shade.
Supplies
You will need:
- 10 ounce distilled water
- 4 tablespoon liquid castile soap
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 10 drops Defender essential oil blend
- Foaming bottles
Mix the Oils
Since the essential oils won't mix with the water, you'll need to dilute them in an oil first. The oil will also moisturize your hands. I used hemp seed oil. Grape seed oil, fractionated (liquid) coconut oil, or avocado oil would also be good for your skin.
Add soap and water
Then add the soap and the water.
That's it! See how easy this is? This is nontoxic and biodegradable.

Many different recipes are out there for Defender essential oil. One recipe is Oil of Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Lemon, Lemongrass, & Rosemary. Usually 10 drops of each. Any combination of fragrant essential oils can be called Defender. It's all in a name and myth.
