DIY Natural Garland
While searching for holiday decor inspo I came across dried fruit garland and fell in love! I have a window over my kitchen sink I decorated with garland and decided to spruce it up a bit!
Here's the garland I have over my kitchen sink window. I love this garland by itself but knew it needed just a lil something more. I bought this garland from Joann's this year.
Materials Needed
To dry your fruit of choice, I used oranges and lemons you'll need cooling racks, a knife, paper towels and of course an oven.
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees F
- Cut fruit as thin as you can
- Pat dry with a paper towel and get as much moisture out as you can
- Space out fruit on a cooling rack
- Bake for 4 hours, I did 5-6 but that will depend on your oven, and flip every 30 mins or so
- Let cool
Step One - Poke Hole
I have this giant needle that I'm pretty sure is for furniture sewing, but any needle you can fit your yarn through will work.
For this garland I just did one hole, the oranges and lemons hang a little side ways. I also made another garland with oranges and cinnamon sticks and poked two holes so they would lay facing forward - just preference on how you want it to hang.
Step Two - String on twine
Before starting I held up the twine to my window to see how long to cut the piece.
I laid out the order I wanted them to go in. This is alternating oranges and lemons!
Step Three - Hang + Enjoy!
I added two strands across the top and then put a bunch of three together and tied it onto the garland with the twine. I love, love the way this turned out.
I also added some fairy lights to this. It's so pretty when its dark out and it's all lit up!

Years ago a friend made a wreath and used dried oranges in it. Hung it over the sink in the window. A "fly" must have laid eggs on one of the slices and the moist heat from the sink doing dishes etc, she ended up seeing maggots all over her sink area.

Enjoyed this. Any idea if they will save to use next year since dried? Or would something need to be done to help preserve?
If saving year after year, as a few suggested, do the slices still give off their citrus aroma?
