Maybe Make it white!
What about taking off the old hardware and replacing it with something simpler? Also, painting it might cover some of what bothers you about it.
Paint is always an option. You could paint out the whole body and leave the top if its in good shape and replace the hardware. That would totally transform it!
Thank you!
New handles can change the whole look
A fresh coat of paint and put the hardware into a crock pot and let it simmer overnight to clean it up. Fill with water and add dish soap (Dawn). Put your crock pot on low and give it 8 - 12 hours.
You can even repaint your old hardware for a completely new look.
How to paint hardware (the right way!)

What a unique dresser! I wouldn't paint it. Remove the old finish with Citristrip and see how it looks. You might be surprised!
chalk paint it, stain it, or use regular paint on it you could give it a good cleaning then just add a clear coat on top as well
Maybe clean it up well and spray paint with Rustoleum metallic paint (grey or the hammer paint). Paint the hardware black. It will look amazingly modern and be unique and look nice with your wall color.
Not sure what the damage is exactly, what a beautiful piece. I would strip it with Citristrip (the least toxic of strippers) and refinish to bring out the beauty in the wood. If you are not happy with the hardware, you can always change it out.

Either sand down and restain it or lightly sand, repair any damage with wood filler or bondo, then paint. DLawless has some really pretty hardware or go to Lowes they have some nice handles. too
Clean thoroughly with OrangeGlo or another restorative wood cleaner. Then see if you like it better. You might want to replace the hardware. If all else fails, you can always paint it.
I would paint it white and change the hardware on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtmBMSB_3lc
Paint it and put on different pulls

Hi Dakota, the quickest and easiest fix is swapping out the handles for something new. You could also paint your lovely dresser. Here's a tutorial that will show you how - https://www.thespruce.com/how-to-paint-a-dresser-4628146
